Dental Implants
A dental implant is a metal titanium alloy screw that is drilled into the bone. It has two components: one that is drilled into the bone, replacing the root, and the crown part that comes on top of the screw. Dental implants provide anchorage to the jaw bone, preventing bone loss in the missing tooth area.
Dental implants are very different from dentures. They are drilled into the bone, preventing slipping, falling, or movement of the teeth, as experienced with dentures. The maintenance of good oral hygiene will help to prolong the longevity of an implant.
In replacing a missing tooth with a bridge, the adjacent healthy teeth are also trimmed. However, with an implant, there is no such need as the implant crown does not need support from the adjacent teeth. Contact us to find out more about implants.
Do I Need Dental Implants
Missing teeth can have a major negative impact on your appearance, causing you to be judged by others in our society. This is not the only problem caused by missing teeth; it causes great difficulty in chewing food, hampering your nutrition, can cause fractures, can lead to more tooth loss, and most importantly, can cause bone loss. With significant bone loss, a decrease in your facial height is seen, which has a negative impact on your appearance. With dental implants, the loss of facial height can be stopped and your nutrition will also not be compromised.
Am I A Good candidate for dental implants?
Implants are contraindicated in some patients with specific systemic and oral conditions, such as in patients with severe osteoporosis. However, the final decision lies in the hands of the practitioner, therefore, you should visit our dental office in person to discuss all your health conditions to get a clearer picture. A thorough medical and drug history would be required by your practitioner to work around your health conditions and provide you with that beautiful smile.
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
Before the procedure is started, a full oral examination is done, along with radiographs, to inspect the jaw bone’s condition too. If the condition of the bone is not that great, then bone grafts are incorporated into the procedure to help produce bone.
During the surgery, the implant is drilled into the bone, and after the wound has healed, you will receive a temporary crown for the implant that you can wear till your permanent crown is fabricated in the lab, which might take up to a few hours. Once we receive it, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent one is cemented. After the crown is received from the lab, the fit of the crown is checked. If found to be perfect, it will be cemented, and you will walk out of the office with your new tooth. How much do dental implants cost?
This question does not have one answer as it varies from case to case. To give an estimate, an implant might cost anywhere between $3,500 to $4,000. This cost is usually split into two parts as the first implant involves the drilling of the implant. The second part starts after waiting for 3-4 months when the crown is installed on top of the implant.
The cost for an implant retained denture is a bit different than crowns. A lower denture with 2-3 implants would range between $4,000 to $6,000. However, the charges vary from clinic to clinic.
No Need To Sacrifice The Adjacent Healthy Teeth
In replacing a missing tooth with a bridge, the adjacent healthy teeth are also trimmed. However, with an implant, there is no such need as the implant crown does not need support from the adjacent teeth. Contact us to find out more about implants.
